Magie de l’image
Man Ray
July 4 to October 31, 2026
Painter, photographer, filmmaker, and image inventor, Man Ray (1890–1976) made experimentation a method and freedom a principle. The exhibition brings together nearly 200 works and traces the journey of a major twentieth-century artist, between Dada and Surrealism. Rayographs, solarisations, objects, and photographs compose a universe in which light becomes writing and reality is transformed. In his work, the image does not merely represent: it displaces, invents, and reveals other possibilities. Between poetry, humour, and invention, his work invites us to slow our gaze and relearn how to see. At a time of infinite circulation of images, Man Ray remains a master of lucidity and visual freedom. It is worth noting that this exceptional exhibition forms part of both the fiftieth anniversary of the artist’s death and the bicentenary of photography.
