Unworlding

August 29 to October 11, 2026

Curation: John Lucas

Friche la Belle de Mai

A place of conversation, collapse, confrontation, creation, and community: Unworlding brings together an exhibition and a series of public dialogues uniting artists and writers to rethink structures and relationships within a context of social and institutional collapse.

Inspired by Jack Halberstam’s forthcoming book, “Anarchitecture After Everything,” and by Claudia Rankine’s “Triage,” this project approaches collapse not as a failure, but as a condition conducive to artistic and collective invention. As Halberstam writes: “By rejecting the medical and legal languages of healing, recognition, and legitimation, anarchitecture reminds us that change can take many different forms and that improvement and repair are not necessarily its goals.”
