Magnanrama
Portraits, networks, and news related to Nathalie Magnan
June 26 to August 23, 2026
Curator: Mathilde Belouali
In summer 2026, the contemporary art center Les Capucins presents Magnanrama, a group exhibition dedicated to Nathalie Magnan — a major yet still underrecognized figure in the history of media, technology, feminism, and LGBTQIA+ struggles, who passed away in 2016.
Bringing together numerous archives and films retracing her career, as well as artists who collaborated with her or follow in her wake, the exhibition highlights the ideas, struggles, and bridges Nathalie Magnan created between different disciplinary fields and intellectual and activist communities from the 1980s to the 2010s. The exhibition is not conceived merely as a portrait or a tribute (“femmage”), but rather as a collective biography of the media theorist, cyberfeminist, and hacktivist — a navigator of both seas and internets. It reveals the legacy she leaves behind, even though she never claimed the title of artist — her struggles around gender issues in technology, her sharp inquiries into how media shape our worldviews, her belief in everyone’s agency to produce their own representations, her participatory investigative methodology, and her humor.
An exhibition co-produced by Villa Arson, Nice; Centre d’art contemporain Les Capucins, City of Embrun; and Bétonsalon – Centre for Art and Research, Paris.
