Frac Sud – Cité de l’art contemporain
L’écologie des relations – La Forêt amante de la mer
February 7 to November 15, 2026
This exhibition brings together Japanese artists from several generations around the sensitive, ecological, and mnemonic ties that connect us to our living environments. Inspired by the triple disaster of March 11, 2011 in Japan, it explores artistic practices that emerged in the “post-Fukushima” years, shaped by the country’s history and its rapid modernization.
Conceived in resonance with the architecture of the Frac Sud designed by Kengo Kuma, the exhibition design creates a dialogue between works that bear witness to shifting relationships between humans, environments, and ecosystems. The subtitle, borrowed from an ecological fable by Shigeatsu Hatakeyama, evokes a worldview in which every element of the living world contributes to a shared balance.
Throughout the year, a cultural program accompanies the exhibition, notably in collaboration with FIDMarseille, Wildproject, Cipm, and Opera Mundi.
Champ étoilé – Angela Detanico & Rafael Lain
February 7 to November 15, 2026
With Champ étoilé, the artist duo Angela Detanico & Rafael Lain invite visitors to immerse themselves in a field of stars, at the crossroads of science, poetry, and cosmogony. Drawing on more than twenty years of collaboration, the artists have developed alphabets of forms that renew our perception of time, space, and the universe.
The exhibition takes the form of a large-scale installation extending their project La Floraison de la lumière, conceived as part of the Prix Marcel Duchamp 2024. At the Frac Sud, these works enter into dialogue with other pieces devoted to celestial bodies, the creation of the world, and the journey of light through the ages.
From both a cosmogonic and contemplative perspective, Champ étoilé explores how humanity represents and situates itself within the cosmos, inviting each of us to lift our eyes to the sky in order to better inhabit the present.
