Région Sud Design Prize : Emma Faury–Graziani

Emma Faury–Graziani’s practice revolves around a central question: what becomes of the materials around us once they have fulfilled their intended purpose?

Over the past two years, she has developed a situated approach rooted in local sourcing, small-scale transformation, and experimentation. Working with production off-cuts such as wood shavings and cardboard, she transforms materials considered secondary into objects with renewed presence, texture, and value. In her design work, matter is not a mere support, but an agent of cultural and territorial transformation.

Her current research focuses on the relationships between design, local materials, and ecological transition. It takes shape through a collection comprising a stool, a bookshelf, and a coffee table in biomaterials and oak, assembled without nails or screws. The wood shavings she uses are recovered directly from the cutting and turning of timber boards and reintroduced into jesmonite, inscribing the manufacturing process itself within a circular logic.
