Pâme, London

Carole Mousset

Pâme was founded with the belief that the sensuality of erotic art finds its perfect medium in the intimate texture and movement of silk. We work with original artistic voices to create limited edition prints you can touch.

For this Art-o-rama edition, we have worked with Brussels-based French Artist Carole Mousset and commissioned 5 paintings (oil on canvas) that were reproduced in a limited edition of 50 on various silk sizes.

The Sargasso Dance

For more than two thousand years, the reproduction of the eel has occupied a space between biology and myth. Because generations of naturalists could find no reproductive organs, eels were believed to emerge spontaneously. Egyptians associated them with the self-generating sun god Atum, while Aristotle believed that eels emerged from the wet “entrails of the earth.”

Only much later did scientists discover that the eel’s reproductive organs develop during the final stage of its life, before it migrates thousands of kilometres from its habitat to the Sargasso Sea, where it is believed to reproduce and die. To this day, no one has witnessed an eel spawning in the wild.

It is precisely within this speculative mystery that Pâme’s seventh collaboration unfolds. Extending Carole Mousset’s exploration of fluid bodies and the sensuality of the monstrous, “The Sargasso Dance” is a series of five paintings imagining what is perhaps the most dramatic moment of an eel’s existence: a final migration culminating in a single reproductive encounter before death.

Rather than depicting reproduction itself, Mousset focuses on intimate, close-up scenes in which the reproductive act turns into a collective choreography of desire. This imaginary and lustful dance extends beyond the procreation of a single species, unfolding into an underwater bacchanal where eels entwine with jellyfish, penetrate anemones and merge with other aquatic forms, blurring the boundaries between species, flesh and desire.
