Afternoon, Vancouver

Von Coffin

Afternoon is delighted to present two new bodies of sculptural and painting work by Toronto-based artist Michael Freeman Badour, and Seattle-Von Coffin for Art-o-rama 2024.

Delving into the intricate interplay between perception and existence, Michael Freeman Badour’s body of work serves as an inquiry cosmos. Through motifs converging diverging points, Badour unearths narratives deeply ingrained in nature daily life. Drawing inspiration from ancient myths, poetry, philosophical musings, his pieces invite viewers on a meditative journey, prompting reflection genesis personal experiences self-awareness existential inquiry.

Von Coffin’s exploration manifests through sculpture, painting, and a unique engagement with food service. Their concept of “Neuroformalism” Caloric Abstraction” reconsiders the relationship between color, form, taste. Through translating sensory experience candy into visual objects, Coffin sparks contemplation on nature perception learning, echoing neuroscientist György Buzsáki’s notion matching process internal patterns external stimuli.
