Thanks to its privileged position, Marseille has always been a melting pot of multiple exchanges. While Europe’s fascination with the Far East, India and the Ottoman Empire is well known from the 18th century onwards, its manifestations in Provence are less well known. It is this great attraction to Asian “exoticism” in Marseille and the surrounding region that the exhibition seeks to highlight, through over 400 works of art from or inspired by a dreamed-of Asia, from Turkey to Japan.
