What invisible and secret presences are contained in Jot Fau’s works? In this artist’s work, the notion of refuge is essential, and objects as works of art undergo metamorphosis. The sculptures become sometimes a house, sometimes magic, sometimes armor. The moving body parts made of materials from the domestic world or small branches collected in situ, these heterogeneous bodies systematically covered or sewn, find a new place, separately or side by side, to give a feeling of both humility and power.

During a ten-week creative residency, Jot Fau devoted infinite and necessary time to the essential gestures she addresses as a fragile and symbolic response to disaster. This time is an alteration of that stolen from a previous life, an attention that the artist pays to lived, broken, or shattered worlds. Her compassionate and modest actions toward the different materials and assemblages she creates have a transformative, healing, and protective effect.
