Since meeting at the École des Beaux-Arts in Dijon and beginning their collaborative practice in the early 2000s, Ida Tursic & Wilfried Mille have explored the infinite possibilities of their chosen medium: painting.
The duo engages with every iconographic register — from landscape to portrait to still life — moving back and forth between abstraction and figuration. Their process is both artisanal and virtuosic. Often covered with superimposed layers or interrupted by various motifs, scratches, or splashes, the paintings address the manipulation, reuse, and disappearance of images. Their subjects are drawn as much from the grand history of art as from cinema, the internet, or magazines, multiplying references and opening up a range of possible interpretations.
