Tchikebe, Marseilles
With original prints by Claude Lévêque, Julien Prévieux, Arnaud Labelle-Rojoux, Jeanne Susplugas, Yann Sérandour, and Jacques Villeglé, Tchikebe’s proposal for ART-O-RAMA 2018 focuses on the notion of a snub. They sought to call collectors through incongruity and humor.
They show that humor, irony, irreverence, are not devoid of links with the social sphere, and that they cannot ignore the seriousness that surfaces on these works, indicating the importance for artists of their relationship to the history of art, politics or economics.
What seems to be a spin or a gag, in fact plunges us into the most vivid issues of our current world. With a smile, yes, but creaky …at least.
