Paula Blanco & Adela Angulo Portugal
The project “The flight of the fly” that STAIN Projects presents for the 2025 edition of the Art-o-rama Contemporary Art Fair is based on the 1967 piece by Walter Marchetti entitled “Movements of a Fly on a Window Between 8 AM and 7 PM One Day in May, 1967”. Two readings emerge from this work: one focused on movement, travel and time, and another that explores the randomness and unpredictability inherent in living organisms.
For this project, Paula Blanco and Adela Angulo Portugal, taking Marchetti’s work as a reference and from their respective disciplines -sculpture and painting- will reflect on the various interpretations of the piece by the Italian artist.
Adela Angulo’s large format paintings, which seem to evoke the flight of an insect or the trace of an animal’s movements on the earth, will establish a direct dialogue with Paula Blanco’s delicate and organic sculptures. The structures of which look like a physical translation of Marchetti’s dotted lines and at the same time support the weight (as if they were thin legs) of the layers of fiberglass that build forms similar to the wings of a fly or the translucent skin of an insect.
Blanco’s sculptures will be displayed in the exhibition space following the forms and paths described in Angulo’s works, like a kind of music sheet, script or instruction manual, establishing a direct influence the movements of one on the other, just like those of the fly on the artist in 1967.
This interplay between the two artists will result in a reinterpretation of Marchetti’s work beyond the schematization and synthesis that characterize it, creating an immersive experience somewhere between abstraction and the representation of nature.
