2023

South Parade, London

Aidan Duffy

For Art-o-rama 2023, South Parade presents a solo presentation by Aidan Duffy (b. 1995, UK) who lives and works in London.

Under the working title of Hot Facade, the gallery introduces Duffy’s floor and wall based sculptures to a wider audience at Art-o-rama. This presentation of all new works will build on our previous collaborations, The Room (Group Show at South Parade, June 2022) and an upcoming solo exhibition at South Parade, February 2023, entitled young coin rite. The presentation consists of four floor and four wall based sculptures.
The floor sculptures are of differing sizes. Appearing somewhere between enlarged vertebrae or insect architecture/nests, they have a mesh like outer layer obscuring the internal elements held together with metals, epoxy clay and fabrics. Duffy takes Castiglioni’s cocoon lamp as a departure point.

Duffy’s wall based work are of rich texture, shape and structure that combine and fuse the natural and synthetic; the organic and inorganic. He collects and uses an intriguing range of natural and industrially made materials: stone and driftwood, metal for recycling, pottery, and other discarded objects and off-cut fabrics he is given by friends or picks up.

Since last year, South Parade has been building a strong working relationship with Aidan Duffy, always platforming the development of new work where possible and we are excited to continue this process at Art-o-rama to deliver new and ambitious works.
