Paulina Caspari, Munich

Jeanne Gaigher, Vincent Scheers, Hojeong Lee

Paulina Caspari presents a dialog of three emerging artists, whose works harbor the overarching theme of caring and empathy, and question the passions of power, competitiveness and control.

The painted, drawn and constructed situations strive to something in the opposite direction:Wanting of something more fragile , the opposite of a skin that is a solid and confident barrier is something that operates quietly, low pitched, soundless, the skin that is leaking, the fragility, the non confident, a thing or a body that evokes more empathy, that also operates as an empathy machine, the body that shows it is full of uncertainty, always negotiating, always absorbing, showing its history, showing that it is ever changing. It is fertile ground, it is able to host many ideas and cultures, it mimics that of a composting heap, it is chaotic, it is unreliable, it leaks. It is tied up. It is heavy, it can’t move fast, it shows its insides, it is shy, it is busy disintegrating, they talk with uncertainty, There is a radical intimacy because of the slowness and the openness (loudness and certainty is like being deaf) of being choreographed.

It might feel violent or interested in death and rotting but it’s not. Inspired by the scent of the onion, by your plant ally, by the way the magnolia tree is quietly growing and shooting its roots. The paintings or things show a new kind of vitality.
