Région Sud Art Prize – Laureate 2025: Juliette George

Trained in photography, Juliette George produces mainly textual visual art. This paradox could signal an obvious tendency to break free from expectations.

Her work, which borrows as much from conceptual art as it does from everyday life, reflects her keen insight into the contemporary world and, more specifically, its economic and political beliefs. In her own words, she uses a bureaucratic aesthetic, which is cold, disembodied, smooth, and sometimes boring. Through her actions (such as redacting presidential speeches or economic treaties), she humorously subverts the codes and gimmicks associated with power structures. From speculation to the shaping of bankruptcy, Juliette George questions the notion of value and the narrative that surrounds and underpins it. At the same time, she strives to find in jargon-filled or technical language the vestiges of a tenacious, offbeat, amused, even irreverent poetry.
