2012

In Situ Fabienne Leclerc, Paris

For its participation to ART-O-RAMA, galerie In Situ will put together works by Renaud Auguste-Dormeuil, Martin Dammann, Joana Hadjithomas & Khalil Joreige, and Meschac Gaba.

Those four artists’ reflections deal with issues related to historical memory and conflict. In the iconic content for Martin Dammann, while Renaud Auguste-Dormeuil uses chance and representation, Joreige & Hadjithomas capture historical events, and Meschac Gaba study cultural and economic flows.

Martin Dammann directs his attention towards the multifaceted and often contradictory relationships of pictures to that which they depict, and thus to that which they (the pictures) themselves are not.
The works by Renaud Auguste-Dormeuil show a striking plastic force with contemporary stakes. The politically engaged artist never stops questioning the image and the representations, whether they be from the medias, official sources or more intimate.

Beirut born Joana Hadjithomas & Khalil Joreige are interested in the image of the contemporary Arab world. Mainly based on portrayals of Beirut, their cinematic and plastic work highlights the urban transformation there, and reveals the power of historical events.

Meschac Gaba, one of Africa’s most pertinent contemporary artists, has been rewriting the contemporary history of his motherland for more than ten years.
