Carmen Ortiz Blanco

For ART-O-RAMA 2026, Carmen Ortiz Blanco presents a sculptural ensemble that expands her formal and conceptual universe through works from the Fluctus lacus series alongside a wall piece from the Untitled project, articulating a landscape that oscillates between geological imagination and contemporary abstraction.

Drawing on astrogeological terminology, Fluctus lacus unfolds through three floor-based sculptures that evoke undulating, crater-like surfaces, recalling both lunar topographies and speculative terrains. Made of black rubber, these forms generate an immersive environment that requires careful navigation, activating a bodily perception marked by subtle unease. The material—historically linked to the automotive industry—introduces a tension between the organic and the industrial, permanence and acceleration, echoing the legacy of fossil-fuel modernity.

In dialogue, the wall-mounted Untitled piece translates this wavering language into a more contained, geometric register: square structures disrupted by rhythmic wave patterns. Here, modulation replaces expansion, yet the same conceptual inquiry persists. Across both bodies of work, Ortiz Blanco mobilizes doubt not as paralysis but as method—an operative condition through which perception remains in flux, inviting viewers to inhabit uncertainty as a critical and generative space.
