Romain Bernini, Emile Degorce Dumas

For its first participation in Art-O-Rama, Galerie Suzanne Tarasieve is pleased to present a dialogue between the works of Romain Bernini and Émile Degorce-Dumas.

Romain Bernini unveils a set of new paintings created after his residency at the French Institute of Cambodia and the Ecole Française d’Extrême Orient. Two large paintings, completing the latest series initiated by the artist in his previous exhibition at the gallery, depict human figures from behind whose presence fades in favor of a toucan royally perched on its branch.
In these images, Man is portrayed as a witness, a mere observer. He does not act but simply contemplates.
The colorful backgrounds, characteristic of his unique and almost hypnotic style, envelop the human silhouettes, creating an atmosphere where nature seems to dominate and transcend humanity. Romain Bernini succeeds in capturing the essence of a respectful and contemplative relationship between humans and nature, a theme particularly impotant in the current context of ecological awareness. The ceramics of Émile Degorce-Dumas add a dimension to this reflection on the links between humans and animals.

Exhibited in the Project Room of the gallery last January, the artist presents three new sculptures for Art-O-Rama, offering a captivating exploration through the theme of transformation and hybridization:

A panther with a human face evoking the myth of Amethyst, transformed into crystal by Diane to escape Bacchus, or a ceramic base supported by turtles, referring to the myth of Chelone, who was turned into a turtle for refusing to attend a divine wedding.

Émile Degorce-Dumas explores transformation in various forms, from ancient myths to contemporary perceptions, inviting visitors to reflect on beauty, nature, and change.

The immersive paintings of Romain Bernini and the intriguing sculptures of Degorce-Dumas make the booth a space for dialogue and discovery, celebrating the beauty and complexity of the interactions between humans and nature through personal and universal mythologies.
