Cibrián, San Sebastian
Susan Cianciolo and Pedro Herrero Ferrán
For this edition of Art-o-rama Cibrián is delighted to present a duo project with the artists Susan Cianciolo (b.1969) and Pedro Herrero Ferrán (b. Madrid,1994).
Pedro Herrero Ferrán shows an iteration of Low Flight, his first solo exhibition at the gallery. His approach to sculpture is influenced by the use of open source software in the field of aeronautics and mapping. Herrero Ferrán deliberately misuses these shared knowledge, creating ambiguous works whose shapes can no longer support the functionality for which they were intended. The artist creates a vocabulary that challenges the idea of instruction/instructor and which has its roots in queer studies.
Susan Cianciolo uses a variety of personal objects and archival material to produce collages, garments, textiles, installations, publications, videos and performances. In 1995 she founded RUN, a fashion label with multiple iterations such as RUN Store, RUN Café and RUN Restaurant, with which she produced eleven collections between 1995 and 2001. Here she will show new works on paper.
This booth is based on the reflection of these two artists on sharing and pooling of resources. For Herrero Ferrán it allows formal, poetical and social emancipation. In Cianciolo’s work the relational aspect unfolds through shared rituals such as fashion show, film set, garment making, cooking or teaching. What appears in her work are the residues of such rituals.
