and the editions, Vienna

Pierre-Olivier Arnaud, Julia Gaisbacher, Sarah Ortmeyer, Lennart Schweder and Nadim Vardag

and the editions presents at Art-o-rama a constellation of limited editions by Pierre-Olivier Arnaud, Julia Gaisbacher, Sarah Ortmeyer, Lennart Schweder and Nadim Vardag.

The editions by Nadim Vardag and Pierre-Olivier Arnaud seem to be formally a mass product and do not set a clear boundary as to whether one can perceive the work of art as an everyday object or whether one should look at the object of use as a piece of art. With this in mind, Vardag made an edition in which an image and its materialization coincide with each other – a towel woven in Jacquard technique depicting interweaving threads. And Arnaud took a detail of a stock photograph and turned it into a darker, black-and-white version, taking it out of the consumerist mass culture to transform it into a limited print.

On the other side, there are the editions by Sarah Ortmeyer, Lennart Schweder and Julia Gaisbacher, which all use more traditional media of art for their editions, but are questioning the status of art within the structures of communication systems, technical transformations and its history in connection to the everyday.

Very consciously all artists used the nature of the edition, the original artwork, which exists more than once, as the chosen form for those specific works to underline their conceptual approach
