Contemporaine de Nîmes

Alassan Diawara & Zineb Sedira

Alassan Diawara has imagined a new photographic ensemble, for which he spent several months touring Nîmes and the surrounding area, making numerous encounters. Through slices of life, the young Belgian photographer’s images explore youth, the links between different generations in families and communities, and seek to capture a certain essence of the imagination of the Gard and Camargue regions. Her photographs are set in dialogue with a body of work by Zineb Sedira, which addresses the subject of family and cultural transmission. The artist, who represented France at the Venice Biennale in 2022, also mentored Alassan Diawara in the construction of his project. The installation presented at Carré d’Art – musée d’art contemporain de Nîmes, conceived jointly by the two artists, offers new perspectives on the ways in which histories and cultures are constructed over generations.

At Carré d’Art – musée d’art contemporain de Nîmes, artists Hugo Laporte and Katja Novitskova propose the foundations of a museum and archaeological institution from a time we don’t yet know, yet not so far from our own. It brings together what could be the traces and artifacts of a humanity yet to come, grappling with increasingly troubling ecological, technological, geopolitical and cultural issues. The “Oracle Museum” is built around a fictitious museography, featuring a wide variety of objects, images, sounds, mythologies and characters made by the artists with machines and artificial intelligence, to give us a glimpse of a future that is still avoidable.

For the 4th edition of Résidence de recherche et de création, Carré d’Art -Musée d’art contemporain de Nîmes invites antoine lefebvre editions and Laura Morsch-Kihn to its documentation center to present an event Copie Machine, as part of the programming associated with La Contemporaine de Nîmes 2024.
Since 2017, Copie Machine has been transforming various venues into Temporary Reprography Zones where anyone can come and self-service publishing.
Welcoming all forms of action through photocopying, Copie Machine is an incentive to act and make us act. Based on the principles of copyleft, and accessible to all, Copie Machine makes available to the public more than a hundred artists’ contributions that can be freely copied under the artlibre license.
Anyone can come and take advantage of this freely accessible collection to photocopy or create their own edition.
