Mécènes du Sud invites Pauline Ghersi to Art-o-Rama
Pauline Ghersi draws her imagination from the plethoric plastic and iconographic production of marketing. With tenderness, she picks out the signs of an industry that is both cynical and comforting. She transports us into a neglected domestic universe that could be her own, that of a young mother who, in spite of herself, conforms to the dominant model. Overwhelmed, she hasn’t really taken the time to unpack her boxes, and has furnished herself with the means at hand.
Pauline Ghersi plays with the strings of consumerism caught up in a headlong rush. To maintain purchasing power at all costs, which guarantees social integration for everyone, the brands varnish low-cost merchandise with soulful extras. And to avoid frustrating consumers, they use the magnifying mirror of discounts, promos and batch sales. The artist willingly succumbs to this sleight of hand. If sublimation is an end, what are the means? But after all, isn’t the dream a desirable horizon?
Pauline Ghersi [1989, FR] lives and works in Nîmes.
