La vie climatique. Sensitive Histories of Private Collections

8th edition of the triennial “De leur temps”

April 4 to September 20, 2026

The Museums of Marseille and the ADIAF (Association for the International Promotion of French Art) have joined forces to present the exhibition La vie climatique. Sensitive Histories of Private Collections, on the occasion of the 8th edition of the triennial De leur temps, which highlights works acquired over the past three years by collectors committed to supporting and promoting contemporary creation.

La vie climatique. Sensitive Histories of Private Collectionsbrings together 136 works from more than 70 French and international private collections, as well as from patrons based in Marseille, spanning all fields of artistic practice: painting, video, sculpture, performance, and installation.

The exhibition explores the collection as a true living ecosystem and questions the “ideal climate” of museums—this stable and controlled environment—in the face of the ecological, political, and social upheavals of the contemporary world.

AFRICA

Louisa Babari

May 15, 2026 to January 3, 2027

The [mac] Musée d’Art Contemporain presents an exhibition dedicated to the French, Algerian and Russian artist Louisa Babari. Entitled AFRICA, this immersive project explores the ancient and mythological layers of North Africa through a body of photographic, visual and sound works in which history, fiction and memory intersect. It is accompanied by the sound creation Voix Publiques, produced with the support of the art centre Rhizome, Algeria.

In 2024, the [mac] Musée d’Art Contemporain acquired Journal d’un étudiant algérien à Moscou, an emblematic work by Louisa Babari composed of family archives retracing her father’s journey in the USSR between 1962 and 1972. Through this intimate micro-history, the artist offers a counterpoint to colonial and postcolonial iconography, outlining an Algeria “out of place” and opening a critical dialogue with the major historical narratives. Seeking to deepen this approach, the [mac] has entrusted Louisa Babari with the experimental space of the [mac]room. The exhibition AFRICA, conceived in partnership with the contemporary art centre Passages in Troyes, forms part of a long-term research project combining image archaeology, Amazigh mythology and contemporary creation. The exhibition is accompanied by a sound piece specially created by the artist in collaboration with students from the electroacoustic music class of the Pierre Barbizet Conservatory, under the direction of Jean-Luc Gergonne.
