Parliament presentation is part of a very ambitious project directly linked to the DNA of the gallery.
Indeed, the opening of Parliament gallery took place in the context of a sanitary crisis, and more broadly in a context marked by numerous global upheavals of economic ideological nature, characteristic of the advent of digital technology.
The project, which brings into play these transformations, intrinsic to the work of the gallery’s artists, has been conceived consonantly to the exhibitions presented at the gallery.
The main subject is the transformation of the world based on the current industrial and technological revolution, which is characterised by the weight of dematerialisation, the place of the digital in our relationship to history, to individuals, to bodies, and the way we position ourselves in the different dimensions that now make up our reality. The exhibition is structured around an analogy between the industrial revolution that marked the 19th and 20th centuries and the one we are currently experiencing, as well as their aesthetic implications and their interference on the perception of reality.
On the wall are exhibited a gouache by Fernand Léger, evoking a mechanical aesthetic and referring to the industrial transformation of the beginning of the 20th century; two paintings on wood by Guillaume Valenti, questioning, through the prism of Braille writing, the life of the image in our real world after its absorption by the digital; and a watercolour by Achraf Touloub, who is interested in the process of definition of the body (physical, virtual and imaginary) tested by industrial or technological development.
On the floor, a screen is installed showing a video composition by Flaviu Cacoveanu. By proposing a series of short, non-narrative and atemporal representations, the artist attempts to recreate a poetry of the ordinary by questioning our capacity to see when faced to digital effervescence: by shifting reality, they push us to reconsider our way of looking.
This concept of extension of reality echoes a work by Alfredo Aceto hung high up, namely a clock whose mechanism has been frozen, embodying a temporal rupture and the advent of a new cycle.
Finally, a long table located in the centre of the stand, half of which devotes to the presentation of a series of lithographs specially designed for Art-o-rama by the artist Pierre Pauze. It is a hand-made motif, suggesting the logos and signs of start-ups usually made on a computer. This work intends to show the mediation between the software and the artist’s hand, an imprint of technological retranslation through the body.
