María María Acha-Kutscher, Margaret Harrison and Marinella Senatore
ADN Galeria is presenting a project concentrating on works by María María Acha-Kutscher, Margaret Harrison and Marinella Senatore. This proposal draws a link between fashion and identity developing some ideas introduced by Gilles Lipovetsky around the modern cult of appearance and superficiality. Focusing on clothing, sex roles, sexual practices and, sometimes even on political rhetoric as forms of “fashion”, the three artists echo the main aim of the gallery: ADN Galeria fosters content-based productions that work as a semantic reflection of the contextual dynamics in which they emerge.
The main concern of Acha-Kutscher’s work is the historical and contemporary representation of women: their stories, struggles for emancipation and equality, and the cultural construction of femininity.
Pioneer of British and European feminist art, Margaret Harrison questions notions of gender, identity, politics, social class, domestic violence and exploitation of women’s labor and sexuality.
Marinella Senatore is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice is characterized by a strong participatory dimension and a constant dialogue between history, popular culture and social structures. Her art is pure energy; an energy that flows from the short circuit between different elements she relates in the same scene, real and virtual, indeed, the artist takes on the role of activator of a mechanism (the work of art) whose purpose is to produce a transforming force from the encounter of the elements included in it; a force that then propagates in the surrounding reality until it reaches the viewer.
To analyze fashion’s role in smoothing over social conflict, Gilles Lipovetsky abandons class analysis in favor of an inquiry into the symbolism of everyday life and the creation of ephemeral desire. Using a very similar approach to the philosopher´s conclusions, the presented artists raise disturbing questions about personal joy and anguish in contemporary democracy.
