Villa Datris
MÉDITERRANÉE: Odyssées Contemporaines
From May 15th to November 1st 2026
Exhibition curators: Danièle Marcovici and Stéphane Baumet
Scenography: Laure Dezeuze – Studio Bloomer
An inner sea, a space of passage and transmission, the Mediterranean carries within it a memory made of journeys, exchanges, and intertwined cultures, but also of ruptures, exiles, and deep wounds. For centuries, women and men have sought refuge, futures, and dignity there, at the cost of crossings often marked by heartbreak and loss.
In 2026, the Fondation Villa Datris brings together 74 artists from 20 countries who interrogate the Mediterranean as a sensitive and shared territory. Their works set into dialogue the histories of migrations, common roots, traditions and cultures, while revealing contemporary realities: climate change, migration policies, borders, and violence. Between commitment and poetry, they advocate for welcome, hospitality, and the recognition of the other. The exhibition gives voice to narratives of hope and resistance, carried by those who continue to believe in a Mediterranean that is open, solidary, and profoundly human.
