MICKEY, Chicago
Ryan Nault
MICKEY is pleased to exhibit a solo presentation of paintings by Ryan Nault for ART-O-RAMA 2024.
Nault’s paintings exist in a space between the banal, the beautiful, and the eerie. With a variety of subject matter depicting aspects of the everyday (fruits and vegetables, city views, domestic scenes) the work has a haunting familiarity- these are depictions of an attempt to understand the world. He draws from still life painting, iPhone photos, and found photos to create images of a skewed reality depicted in painstakingly brushed gouache on compact cardboard mounted panels with oil painted frames that are tacked on one side at a time.
Ryan Nault (b. 1991, Grand Rapids, MI) lives and works in Chicago where he holds a bachelor’s degree from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Recent exhibitions include Es ist nur eine Frage der Zeit, Echo (Cologne); Chicago, Baader-Meinhof (Omaha); Down in the woods, up to the sky, Double Q Gallery (Hong Kong); Hand Painted Pictures, Mickey (Chicago); The Long Dream Mu- seum of Contemporary Art (Chicago); Operator?, Soul Cairn Projects (Hong Kong);and The Storytellers, Carrie Secrist (Chicago).
