Keijiban, Kanazawa
Yto Barrada - Katinka Bock - François Curlet - Ana Jotta - Seulgi Lee - Hikari Ono - Joanna Piotrowska - Anri Sala - Yui Yaegashi
Through a selection of pieces from its catalog, as well as the presentation of an ambitious new edition by Ana Jotta, Keijiban is featuring one of the main thrusts of its editorial and curatorial activities: bringing international artists into contact with the Japanese context. Every month since March 2021, Keijiban has invited an artist to exhibit in a typical noticeboard (a “keijiban”), located outdoors on a street in downtown Kanazawa. Each time, these micro-exhibitions are associated with the launch of a limited edition produced in Japan. Whether drawing on Japanese crafts, aesthetic notions, formats, mediums or cultural elements, these editions subtly incorporate a reference to this specific context.
In addition to presenting significant international artists to Japanese audiences, often for the first time, Keijiban is also developing an exhibition program with artists from the flourishing local scene. In a country where the practice of limited editions and multiples is relatively rare, Keijiban offers these artists a stimulating field for experimentation. For Art-O-Rama, their pieces are shown alongside works by Yto Barrada, Katinka Bock, Seulgi Lee, Anri Sala, and others.
