This year, the world and Lithuania commemorate the life and work of Jonas Mekas on the occasion of his centenary. Jonas Mekas is one of the most important cultural figures of the 20th and 21st centuries for Lithuania and a global cultural phenomenon in his field, considered by many as the “godfather of avant-garde cinema”.

The celebration of this centenary, Jonas Mekas 100!, is intended to expand the worldwide recognition of his work and to encourage a closer examination of his prolific contribution to cinema, film criticism, cultural organizations, and especially his corpus of poems and prose published in Lithuanian, French, German, English, Japanese, Hebrew and many other languages.
