Gold transcends its own materiality. Born of the violence of stellar collapse, it carries within its atoms the distant memory of exploding stars. A celestial matter that has traversed the cosmos to rest today in the palm of a hand. It represents an absolute paradox between the venal and the divine. The densest of substances, gold is at once remedy and poison, altar and tomb of a civilisation blinded by its blazing greed.

“Golden Horizons” explores the alchemical dimension where gold becomes the driving force of a world’s transformation, creating the passage from the ineffable to the tangible. The invited artists seize upon its material depth as a conductor of energy and a conceptual source. Gold takes form through fusion, in the fragility of a leaf or the volatility of pigment. It is surface and threshold, hypnosis and promise.

At the heart of this proposal, a selection of artists’ books — intimate recesses of thought and touch — enters into dialogue with other works: prints, ceramics, and drawings.

Royal Book Lodge invites the public to discover gold as a vector of memory, transformation, and resonance.
