Design : Mimo Studio, Studio Payet & Studio Rose in collaboration with Cosa Buena, Marseille
Ricardo Santiago Pacheco, The Blanco family & Hugo Ruiz
We are three creative studios, composed of three designers and a scenographer from France, who came together for the first time in Oaxaca, México this year to work in collaboration with Vera Claire and Cosa Buena.
Together, guided by our shared passion for local craft traditions and materiality, we completed two projects in the region working with local artists and craftsmen from the Cosa Buena community. These maestros include:Ricardo Santiago Pacheco, maestro of Hoja Lata, The Blanco family, traditional potters from Santa María Atzompa, and Hugo Ruiz, a third generation carpenter from the center of Oaxaca. Both of our projects explore the landscape and the ritual of sharing a meal through installations and objects.
After our first collaboration in April, we were awarded a grant from the French Embassy to return and work on a second project with Cosa Buena, which we completed and exhibited in Design Week México in October. After two rewarding collaborations in Oaxaca, our hope is to continue this interchange of ideas and cultures, to experiment with new materials and techniques, and create a common dialogue between art, design and craft.
