Based on the title of a multiple by David Ancelin, “Coco beach”, 2014, Macumba night club editions, kept in the collection of the art library of Villeurbanne, this new award leads to the acquisition by the Artothèque de Villeurbanne of an edition presented on the show.
Beginning of the 1980s. The establishment of artothèques in France, art lending services, dynamizes the relationship to art and opens a field of possibilities.
The Artothèque de Villeurbanne is located in the Maison du livre, de l’image et du son (MLIS), a municipal media library, in a remarkable building designed by the Swiss architect Mario Botta. Built as part of the Great Works that marked the French cultural landscape during the Mitterrand era, the MLIS opened its doors in 1988.
For nearly thirty-five years, the Artothèque has been offering everyone the opportunity to become familiar with the art of their time, by inviting works of art into their living rooms or workplaces.
The collection of multiples shows a panorama of national and international artistic creation, from the 1970s to the present. From John Armleder to William Wegman, from Alfredo Aceto to Claire Tabouret, from the Guerrilla Girls to Xavier Veilhan, including Daniel Buren, Anne-Lise Coste, Jeremy Deller, Mark Dion, Hervé Di Rosa, Nan Goldin, Keith Haring, Dorothy Iannone, Ellsworth Kelly, William Klein, Maxime Lamarche, Bertrand Lavier, Julio Le Parc, Robert Morris, Flora Moscovici and Olivier Mosset; Takashi Murakami, Maurizio Nannucci, Pierre Soulages, Patrick Tosani, Nico Vascellari, Ulla Von Bradenburg… 1813 works of art by 750 major and promising contemporary artists.
