On Saturday evening, we invite you to discover the group exhibition Jamais tu ne me regardes, là où je te vois, a proposal by Fonds Carta with Elvire Bonduelle, John Cornu, Alain Gœtschy, Quentin Lefranc, Gilles Pourtier, Jean-Xavier Renaud and Linda Sanchez, at 55 rue Horace Bertin. We offer departure from la Friche by shuttle at 6:30pm.
At a time when events linking sport and contemporary art are multiplying all over France, Jamais tu ne me regardes, là où je te vois offers an offbeat look at the human body, far removed from the stereotypes associated with physical performance. Conceived by artist Gilles Pourtier, this exhibition goes against the commonplace of the performative body by bringing together seven artists of the younger generation, all of whom take a distanced look at the question of contemporary identity.
Presented in a space dedicated to contemporary dance, this event is in line with the policy of support for contemporary art pursued by Isabelle and Roland Carta for several years. Favoring artist residencies, organizing presentations of emerging artistic practices in Marseille, the couple entrusted Gilles Pourtier (trained at the Ecole Nationale de la Photographie d’Arles) with the task of selecting and staging proposals by local artists working on the question of the body and identity, at the very moment when the city is hosting some of the Olympic Games events.
Drawings, paintings, sculptures and installations, Gilles Pourtier’s selection explores the blurred territory where the body oscillates between dance and sport, movement and rest, affirmation of identity and dilution in a world of appearances. While some artists
artists such as John Cornu, Elvire Bonduelle and Jean-Xavier Renaud, the body is permeated by questions of identity but also a form of humor about its place in our daily lives, other proposals take a more political stance, questioning the gap between postures in the public space and self-assertion in the intimate sphere.
