GODARD AU CONTRAIRE #3

Godard au contraire is the name of an itinerant research and programming project on the legacy of Jean-Luc Godard and the future of his cinema. In partnership with FIDMarseille, Centre national des arts plastiques, Alphabetville, Videodrome2 and INA.

This third sequence is in collaboration with Art-orama 2024.

Based on an online database of Jean-Luc Godard’s film fragments, this web-performance is an exploration of the possibilities of montage. It aims to provoke critical reflection on montage and its powers within the framework of a political debate.

Drôles de guerres, announcement film by Jean-Luc Godard (2023, 20’)

Jean-Luc Godard often transformed his synopses into aesthetic programs. Drôles de guerres, his latest film, follows in this tradition, and will be remembered as the ultimate gesture of cinema, which he accompanies with the following text: “No longer trusting in the billions of diktats of the alphabet to give back their freedom to the incessant metamorphoses and metaphors of a true language by revisiting past shooting locations, while taking into account current times.”
